MailChimp Jungle

MailChimp customer community

Is anyone else having an issue with the Joomla Plugin (http://3by400.com/index.php/mailchimp-module.html) this is the one linked to via MailChimp? Specifically once I have set it up, it keeps linking to the wrong list... Driving me insane... In the plugin itself it asks for the "MailChimp List ID" and when you go to the MailChimp List Settings for the list I want it has "unique id for list BioReka Website" gives me the code and it has "Some plugins and integrations may request your list id. Typically this is what they want.". But really no matter what I put in the Joomla extension it always links to the same list (the wrong one for me, but it is the first list I made in the account).

Is anyone having or have had this issue? Anyone has any fixes?

Ok.. I think I solved it (I put it here just in case some one has the same issue). Basically they are want the web_id from the lists api result not the id, which is what that one page gives you from the MailChimp Lists manager...

Note that the fields manager does not seem to like Addresses though... other than that, I look good to go!

I have tried installing this module and run into the exact same issue - your thread at least got me part way. But, I cannot find the web_id from the api. Where do I find that? I'm not well versed with API - i have a key enabled for another 3rd party app, but that's it.

Hi Blake,

Ok I figured it out, the answer is sort of silly. Literally when you are in MailChimp, go to the Lists section. When you click on the list that you want to link to, look at the URL, you will see something like:

http://us1.admin.mailchimp.com/lists/dashboard?id=156

You want the number after "id=", then everything should work the way that will make you happy. Let me know if you have any other issues, and I will try to answer them for you.

Cheers,
Brad

Perfect (well, that you helped me to get it to work!) That was it and it works like a champ!

But sheeesh, can this all be more poorly designed? I may contact the developer to have them fix this.

Well, actually I'm the developer and I couldn't agree with you more. It is silly, but that's the way the MailChimp API works. You have to enter the id= from the url to get the right list. I know how you feel: when I was writing it, I thought the mailing list id was the same field as you did. I had to contact MailChimp myself to find out about the id= from the url trick. I wish I could fix this, but it's the way the MailChimp API is designed. I've put as helpful a message as I know how on the module's tooltip. If you can think of a more helpful message, please let me know.
